Bucks New University

The CCI programme at Bucks New University reflects the strengths of the University in terms of design, music and performance. The emphasis for each project at Bucks is to include staff, students and local schools and communities. Cross-disciplinary collaboration is crucial to the success of each project, both internally and externally, and involves both national and international artists. The university has a growing relationship with Stoke Mandeville Hospital, birth place of the Paralympics, and a number of projects will involve Paralympians and Olympians local to the area. The programme has been a valuable opportunity to draw on expertise across a range of disciplines, from sport to business, and to forge links with the wider community. New Gold

Where: Bucks New University
When: 31st May - 12th June
New Gold is an innovative collaboration lead by Sign Dance Collective with new and associate practitioners, national and international, which draws on the stories of Paralympians and Olympians, and examines contemporary attitudes to 'competition and winning'. The Signdance Collective (SDC) is an international dance/music/theatre company, based at Bucks New University. The company is lead by deaf and physically-disabled dance/theatre artists, working alongside a composer and musicians. SDC perform a unique blend of dance, theatre, live music, sign language and film, known as 'signdance theatre'. The company travels widely and incorporates influences from many parts of the world. It has worked, recently, with artists in Sardinia, Turkey, India, Greece, Slovenia, and the USA. By bringing together deaf and hearing, physically-impaired and non-disabled artists, and mixing art forms, cultural origins, and abilities, SDC creates inclusive, innovative and challenging work.

Souvenir: Beyond Time and Place

Where: Bucks New University
When: 25th - 26th July
This cross-disciplinary exhibition calls on staff, students and local schools in the Buckinghamshire area. It seeks to examine the meaning of 'souvenir' in response to the spirit of the Olympics and Paralympics, past and present. It will also showcase souvenirs and memorabilia of previous Games. The artefacts may represent a direct response to sport, or be more tangential in exploring underlying issues of competition, internationalism, and the meaning of ‘winning’.

Project leads: Andreas Fabian & Elizabeth Callinicos
